Transvaginal Mesh

Your Sexual Health and Transvaginal Mesh

When sexual dysfunction occurs, the problem can be mental or emotional—but sometimes, the problem is physical. Pelvic floor disorders such as stress urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse affect nearly half of all women and can interfere with normal sexual function.

Unfortunately, surgical treatment of these conditions has the potential to worsen these problems—sometimes making sex impossible.

What is Transvaginal Mesh?

The use of surgical mesh in hernia repairs demonstrated minimal risk of complications, so in 1996 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) first approved the use of mesh in urogynecologic surgeries, implanted through the vagina.

Transvaginal mesh can be implanted to support the bladder to improve continence, or implanted as a hammock-like support system for prolapsed pelvic organs. Starting with a FDA-issued Public Health Notification in 2008, the FDA recognized the serious complications associated with transvaginal mesh and has since determined that these complications are not rare.

Women considering surgery to correct pelvic floor disorders should exhaust alternative therapy options like physical therapy, diet and exercise. If surgery is needed, women should ask their doctor about surgical options that do not use transvaginal mesh.

Mesh Complications

The most common complication with transvaginal mesh is erosion into the vagina. Erosion can require multiple surgeries to repair, substantially decreasing quality of life. And because mesh grows into and around bodily tissues, it cannot always be removed.

The mesh also can perforate nearby organs, which is incredibly painful. When the vaginal wall is perforated, sex can be excruciating or impossible.

Mesh shrinkage is another common complication, which results in vaginal pain due to vaginal tightening and shortening. Both shrinkage and erosion are extremely painful conditions, and pelvic pain does not exactly encourage a healthy sexual appetite.

Other problems include frequent infections, which restricts sexual activities. Mesh can cause irregular bleeding, abnormal discharge and vaginal odors—all making women less likely to be interested in sex.

All of these physical complications can manifest in emotional distress, even depression. The loss of sexual desire, satisfaction or ability can be devastating for an individual and also instill the fear of losing—or actual loss of— a partner. Depression is known to reduce libido, and so the cycle of sexual dysfunction continues.

Teaching Chi Kung in France to women shows me that we are all the same and yet quite different.

The culture is different.  For example, it is considered rude in France to openly ask a woman if she is happy with her romantic relationship.  In America, this would not be strange in many settings.

Once a French woman is speaking openly on the subject however, we clearly hear a passionate desire to love and be loved.  This Universal urge toward deep connection to those we adore spans the globe and must be satisfied.  When we listen with our heart, we see that women are united.

Women Have Two Brains?

Published on: December 12, 2011

Since the beginning of time we have agreed that women are intuitive – some have been so intuitive they were historically thought to be magic.  These women followed their “gut”.  This gut feeling, or intuition, is a gift all women have access to.  The key is understanding the messages this brain delivers.

Today, we understand that the body has two brains, 1) The brain in our head, and 2) The digestive system.
The brain in our belly plays a big role in our health, happiness and emotional balance. In our gut we have neurotransmitters like dopamine, norepinephrine, nitric oxide, and serotonin.  Our gut also has neuropeptides.  Neuropeptides are molecules used by neurons to communicate with each other. They signal molecules and influence the activity of the brain.  They are involved in brain functions like food intake, learning and memory.
I could speak about the physical likeness of these two brains for many pages.  What I want to share with ladies is the importance of keeping this second brain healthy and 100% functional.  As women, when this brain is clean and healthy you are more free to hear and understand its messages and thus have the opportunity to comprehend situations from a clearer and more balanced perspective.  When this brain is sick, inflamed or stuck, the perception of the world will be tainted negatively.

Do you understand what that means? If a woman chooses to focus on her physical health through detoxifying and energizing her digestive system, she automatically improves her mental health and grows her intuitive abilities!

Chi Nei Tsang abdominal detoxifying/energizing massage is very popular in France now. The reason for this is that it works, and any adult or teen can learn to do it for themselves. Once learned, most people can be taught to share with a child or friend.  Friends learn to work with each other, medical visits become less frequent  and self awareness grows.

Women have special reasons for needing this knowledge because their reproductive organs are in close proximity to the digestive system. Toxic gasses and sickness in the intestines can be very dangerous to a woman for this reason.
It is best to learn Chi Nei Tsang abdominal massage when we are healthy to prevent illness, but Chi Nei Tsang can be a powerful tool for healing as well.  It’s never too late to start, so why wait?

Chi Nei Tsang for women’s health

Chi Nei Tsang abdominal massage is being offered as an exotic beauty treatment at health spa’s across the world because it works.

The results of a treatment range from improved energy and peace of mind to weight loss and pain relief.  Women who take four or five treatments report improved digestion, sleep and reproductive health, to name a few.

As we return to natural health, our desire for emotional balance and physical radiance are our new priority.  Nature has given us ways to detoxify, energize and support our internal organs and reproductive system.  All we must do is learn these simple secrets to experience the same benefit at home; for free.

“Chi Nei Tsang is natural medicine we can use at home.  When a child has a belly ache, what do they do?  They rub their belly!

As women, we can use these massage techniques to keep our body lower in toxicity and prevent many illnesses – and we can share these techniques with those we love.

Think about it, your uterus and bladder share space with your intestines.  If your intestines are coated or filled with rotting material, don’t you think this could have a negative effect on your other organs?  Is it possible that your liver and kidneys are working extra hard to keep your system clean?  Could this lower your energy and open you to illness?

It is time to take back our personal power and heal ourselves.  Once we have balanced ourselves, we may live in a new reality where we maintain this healthy life so we may share our love and energy freely.”

Yoga and Meditation

Often when we begin our Yoga education, we focus on the physical form.  We practice proper structure and work to memorize the sequence of postures.

As we mature in our practice, we learn to focus on the more subtle aspects of Yoga.  We focus on the connection between the mind and the body.  We learn that through mindfulness, the body becomes stronger, supple, and energetically open.  We need less physical effort to attain our Yoga goals when we connect the brain with our actions.

The same can be said for other aspects of physical health.  When we connect our mind in a positive, conscious way to our internal organs.  When we harbor positive feelings about our body, it responds in kind.

In this same way, when we connect our mind to our organs in a negative way, we may cause damage to the cells over time.  Anyone who has suffered a broken heart, or excess stress at home or work has felt the negative results of unhappy thoughts.

Try this experiment after your next Yoga class:

Choose three or four friends in class to share this experiment.

When rest time comes, lie down and smile to your body for at least 1 minute.

Then, make a sad or angry face and focus that feeling on your body for at least 30 seconds.

Next, relax your body, and ask yourself if there is a different sensation from smile to frown.

When finished, relax your body even deeper, free your mind, and let your Yoga practice work it’s magic.

When class is finished, talk to your classmates and share your experience.

Yoga and Tai Chi are moving meditations.

Check back here soon for more yoga and qigong information on the connection between your brain and your physical health!

How To Learn Chi Kung Safely

Learn Chi Kung Safely

Chi Kung - Sarina StoneMany new students approach Chi Kung (Qigong, Chi Kung, and Energy Work are the same) instructors requesting specific techniques to attain specific goals.  Sick people want to learn to heal their body, tired people want to wake up, and a fair number of guys want to sustain their erection until their partner faints from exhaustion.

All of these can be attained and controlled by the mind.  Smart cosmonauts simply find the formula, practice it, and master the Chi Kung technique.

The Chi Kung instructors job is two-fold:

  1. We clearly train the student in the steps required to master the formula
  2. We prepare the student to handle the new knowledge.  It is this second issue that will be addressed here

We understand that a sick person wants to heal quickly and may want to skip lectures or what appears to be preliminary training.  We understand that they just want to feel better as soon as possible.  It seems logical to simply learn the Chi Kung technique which will transform the current ailment.  That being said, one cannot start a journey to a new place half way down the path.  Rather, there is always a first step which leads to yet another, if one so chooses. With each leg of the journey, we experience a gradual change of landscape.  We, too, gradually change our understanding of our environment and what it takes to navigate that terrain.  With each leg of the journey, we slowly leave behind the old way of thinking and adopt the new Chi Kung tools necessary to continue toward the goal.  Upon our arrival at our  new destination, we carry the knowledge of the local animals, foliage, people, and customs.  If a man had the ability to helicopter himself to the end of the road, he may arrive with skill sets and attitudes that do not work well in his new environment.

Such is the same when learning Chi Kung

The way we help prevent mis-use of power is to study one system in it’s entirety.  We start at the beginning and hold the space for growth.  We learn the secrets of the mind in slow, specific steps designed to facilitate transformation in preparation for the next phase of the journey.  These steps may be formulas of meditation which contain pieces of the formula’s to come, or they may be lifestyle changes necessary to proceed successfully. Inner Alchemy has been charted and studied for thousands of years, and those pioneers who cultivated the skill created a curriculum  designed to be experienced in a specific sequence.   If we skip steps, we will not have the skill set necessary to to continue toward our goal.

So, be patient when studying Chi Kung.  Enjoy each step of Chi Kung and stay in the moment, knowing you are walking the path which holds many adventures even before what you think is your destination.

Importance of Female Sexual Health

Female Sexual Health: A Sacred Energy

female sexual health Sarina StoneThe importance of female sexual health has become a common and often talked about issue around the world. We are no longer in the dark about the importance of this most sacred energy our female body produces and the role it plays in our physical, mental, and spiritual well being. It is a new time for women; a time for open communication and sharing about female sexual health.

Female Sexual Health: A Healing Energy

In my earliest memories of studying with Master Chia, I recall him teaching that when enough of us transform our negative emotional state, the world will spontaneously transform its own negative energy and become a more beautiful place. In the years since I was taught this, I have seen rooms filled with women performing the healthy, healing exercises and have witnessed the gentle power of healthy Yin Chi. I have seen women laugh and dance and fill a room with their essence. I have seen repressed women smile to their body and transform their negative views of themselves.

And when this joy spreads from their smiling eyes, indeed, the room is transformed to a celebratory space filled with compassion and strength of femininity. What healthy person could resist this grace?

Female Sexual Health: A Powerful Energy

Feminine strength does not push or control, rather it’s power comes from compassionate wisdom and offers a perfect compliment to its Yang, masculine counter part. Without Yin, or water, the Yang, or Fire, burns too hot and eventually extinguishes itself. Yes ladies, there is strength and beauty in being women. We are needed, and in turn, need a healthy connection to that which is our opposite to be truly balanced. No woman is an island, rather she is the water surrounding the island that permeates and nourishes all life. Together, let us endeavor to keep our female sexual health clean and vital.

Avoidance Behavior 101

Avoiding Intimacy? Avoidance Behavior 101

It’s so easy to spot someone who is avoiding intimacy.  Or is it?

Most of us think of avoidance as an outright refusal to participate in an activity or endeavor.  But if we really take a look at avoidance, we find it can be cloaked so many ways.

We make ourselves busy.  We surround ourselves with others and delve into their lives. We “work”.  We over commit.  We get too tired.  We get too wired.  We travel.  We get sick.  These are clever techniques to avoid the things that matter at home.

Exploring the world is a wonderful thing, but there’s no place like home, and if we do not do the work to maintain a healthy foundation with our partner, some day we may come home and find our cozy nest empty; even if our partner is physically there.

Avoiding that which makes us uncomfortable is human, and as we mature, we tend to get more creative in how we avoid confrontation.  So, lover beware.  Be careful not to let too much time go by without stopping to check in with your partner.  Set private time aside each week for each other.  Share your thoughts and ask your partner about theirs.  Listen.  Shut off the phone for a few hours.  Bond.

Making time for yourself and your partner is just as important as keeping your professional associations and commitments, so be mindful when creating your mental list of priorities.  Remember, at the end of the day you can’t hug your job.

Yours in the Tao,

Sarina

Being A Woman

Categories: Relationship Advice

Published on: October 27, 2010

I got a letter from an old friend the other day with permission to share with my readers.  I cleaned up her spelling a bit and present this to you now.  If it sounds like my voice, it is because I cleaned up her verbiage a bit, too.

Dear Sarina

For the longest time I thought I was the easiest woman to get along with on the planet.  I’m the one all the guys tell their dating stories to because I usually commiserate with the male side of the story.  I am fiercely single.  I do not see myself as the neurotic female who brings up uncomfortable issues at midnight while lying in bed naked with her lover.  I never ask a man what he’s thinking (largely because I don’t care).   It would be out of the question to profess anything but appreciation for my lover, and would not entertain the notion of saddling a man with something silly like falling in love or asking for a commitment.

I am the “cool chick”; at least until recently.  Until now I have not been attached to the outcome of my romantic relationships.  Something, or rather some one, has changed that for me and I find myself in unfamiliar territory.  I care.

I find that with this wonderful care comes instability, passion, neuroticism, love, hate, frailty, distrust, and the most unattractive behavior.

I will absolutely bring up uncomfortable issues at midnight while my unsuspecting lover lies naked and vulnerable.  I have to fight not to ask what he’s thinking.  And frankly, I can wake up delighted with my romantic situation, be positive it’s all rubbish by mid day, and convinced we are star crossed lovers before bed.  I can do this without ever speaking to him.

No, I was not the “cool chick”.  I was the “safe chick”.  I was hoping you would publish this so all my vulnerable gal pals who make asses of themselves every day know I finally get it, and I’m sorry I judged them for being “chicks”.

Yours Truly,

Anonymous

Dear Anonymous,

Your letter is being published on my website and I sincerely hope chicks around the world not only read it, but “get it!”

Yours in the Tao,

Sarina
